James Lafferty dating Sophia Bush
Oct 31, 2008 James Can 1 comment

The latest episodes of One Tree Hill have featured some nice scenes between Nathan and Brooke. The characters don’t get a chance to interact often, but when they do they have a certain brand of undeniable chemistry. Nathan was there for Brooke after her violent attack earlier this season, and in the most recent episode he helped her reconnect with Owen. Every time I see the two characters on screen, I find myself wishing they had more scenes together.

The chemistry between Nathan and Brooke could be due to the real life romance between actors James Lafferty and Sophia Bush. We wrote about the rumors surrounding the two way back in January, but now Kristin at E!Online has officially confirmed the relationship. Not only are James and Sophia dating, but her ex-husband Chad Michael Murray approves of the pairing.

Though rumors about the couple have been swirling around for months, their relationship wasn’t confirmed until a recent interview with Chad Michael Murray. The actor was asked about his relationship with Bush while chatting with a local CW news affiliate, to which he responded:

“It’s one of those things where you grow up a lot faster. You’re put in a situation where you’re gonna deal with things right in your face. But I think [Sophia and I] are both professional and mature enough to get through it. And now it’s just easy. We’re just friends. And she’s got James, and James and I are friends. It’s just a little tight group in Wilmington.”

You can watch the interview for yourself below, where Murray also discusses what’s coming up on One Tree Hill, as well as his upcoming wedding plans:

Following Murray’s comments, Kristin at E!Online contacted an insider from the series who told her that Sophia and James are “definitely together.” Personal representatives for the actors have yet to comment on the story.

It’s nice to hear that Sophia and James are together, but I’m also happy there’s no bad blood between her and her former husband. The fact that both have moved on to new relationships is refreshing, and it really does seem like everyone on the set is a big, happy family. This should give a little bit of hope to Brucas fans, as it doesn’t sound like the two actors would mind doing romantic scenes together.

Does this news mean that we can look forward to more scenes between Nathan and Brooke in the future? We’ll have to tune in to One Tree Hill every Monday to find out.

Oct 27, 2008 James Can 19 comments

James and Sophia has been spotted together at the airport of Wilmington on the 24th of October recently. As the rumors are going strong about James and Sophia dating, pictures have been taken of them hugging at the airport. Conclusions? It’s up to you… I’ll leave it a question mark until anything official has been reported.

Rumors on James and Sophia
Oct 27, 2008 James Can No comments

For months, there have been major rumors going around about James possibly dating his One Tree Hill co-star Sophia Bush. This morning, Chad Michael Murray pointed out “she’s got James”.

Chad Michael Murray was interviewed this morning on CW11 and he was asked about his relationship with Sophia. He told, “she’s got James, and James and I are friends…” It’s not a real confirmation at this point, but in a way you can see it as a confirmation. Both James and Sophia haven’t confirmed to have a relationship. As long as nothing has been confirmed by one of them, this will stay a rumor.

‘One Tree Hill’ creator signs up for 7th season; now it’s up to the actors
Oct 15, 2008 One Tree Hill Can No comments

The creator of television series ‘One Tree Hill’ hopes the CW network will decide by the first of the year whether to bring back the Wilmington-filmed series now that he’s agreed to head a seventh season.

In a phone interview from Wilmington, Mark Schwahn said he told the network, a joint venture between Time Warner Inc.’s Warner Bros. unit and CBS Corp., he would like to know if the show is returning before filming begins on the last four to five episodes. To do that, he would need to know by Jan. 1.

“They (the CW) doesn’t owe me that, but I feel like they owe it to the fans,” Schwahn said.

Mark Schwahn has signed three deals, including a one-year agreement with Warner Bros. TV to continue as executive producer for a possible seventh season. His other deals include a two-year deal with CBS Paramount Network TV to develop new projects and a deal with CBS Records to begin his own imprint.

The CBS television deal allows him to remain at the helm of ‘One Tree Hill’ if a seventh season is negotiated with the actors, whose six-year contracts end after this season.

In interviews in August, the actors who play Lucas, Peyton, Brooke, Nathan and Haley were divided on whether they were interested in a seventh season. Bethany Joy Galeotti (Haley), whose real-life husband lives in Washington state, seemed the least interested.

“I want to see my husband,” she said. “I want to go home and make babies. I love this show and I love the people on this show, but yeah, I think it’s time. It’s time to go home.”

But minds change, even over two months, and a regular paycheck can be a good thing in this economic climate.

“We all make a lot of money making this TV show,” Schwahn said. “We feel very fortunate to have jobs.”

On the other hand, it’s a young cast and “when you’re young, you’re inclined to wonder what else is out there,” he said. “They may want to go out and explore.”

James Lafferty, who plays Nathan, said he would want to know if everyone was on board for a seventh season before deciding.

“There’s a version of ‘One Tree Hill’ that people want to come back for, but I think the only version is a version where everybody’s back and everybody’s involved,” Lafferty said. “I don’t think we can have the version with just two or three of the main characters. I don’t think we can have ‘One Tree Hill’ partially come back. It’s got to be all or nothing.”

BuddyTV sits down with James
Oct 14, 2008 James, One Tree Hill Danielle No comments

BuddyTV’s Don recently caught up with James Lafferty for an exclusive interview.  James discusses what’s coming up for Nathan, filming the Slamball scenes, what’s in the future for Nathan and Haley, and whether Dan’s recent heroics will get him back in his son’s good graces and much more.

Even when he’s kissing evil nannies or simmering in rage due to temporary paralysis, Nathan remains one of the most grounded, relatable characters on One Tree Hill.  His relationship with Haley forms the emotional backbone of the show, and the Scott family only became more interesting with the addition of Jamie in season 5.  The next few episodes of the series will find Nathan joining a Slamball team, which he hopes will get him back on the path toward NBA glory.

Tree Hill’s Nathan goes to extremes, but at what cost?
Oct 13, 2008 One Tree Hill Can No comments

Nathan Scott has always been a bit of a risk-taker, but how far would he go to make his basketball dreams a reality? One Tree Hill’s James Lafferty checked in with TVGuide.com to tell us about the character’s upcoming episode involving Slamball, an extreme sport that combines basketball, hockey and a bit of football. Plus: Will his villainous father Dan ever go away?

I saw the preview for next week and Slamball looks pretty intense. Tell me about it and how your character gets involved?
James Lafferty: Nathan is feeling held back and trying to play professional basketball again but people are a little reluctant to give him a second chance because of injuries that he sustained. They don’t know if he’s ready to take on the physicality of basketball and so this opportunity is presented to play Slamball, which is sort of a hybrid sport of football, hockey and basketball, and he takes the opportunity to showcase his athletic ability and to prove to people that he’s back on the top of his game.

Is it Owen who introduces it to him?
Actually he gets a phone call from a coach and [then] he finds out that Owen is playing.

So does that mean he’s not going to take the coaching gig?
Well, I don’t think I can give that away.

I hear you’ve been really getting into Slamball outside of One Tree Hill.
It was here for about a month and a half and the character was supposed to be really good at the game. I didn’t want to be using a double, I wanted it to look convincing. The audience is pretty good at sniffing out imposters so I actually learned how to play. It took about a month and we shot it over the course of another half a month. We were done with it pretty quick. I think everyone was sad to see the court go, especially myself, but I definitely took to it.

Is it going to be hard on Haley and Jamie, will it strain their relationship at all?
I think it’s gonna provide a little bit of drama because it’s a very physical sport. The last thing Haley and Jamie want to see is Nathan get hurt again, and the last thing Nathan wants to do is put his family in that position again. That definitely comes into play.

Nathan and Haley have gone through tons of ups and downs. What kind of place are they in now and how do you think they’ve grown since the beginning of their relationship?
Well, Nathan and Haley have been married for five years now, they have a child, so they’re definitely a strong unit. They’ve been through ups and downs, as you said, they definitely learned a lot about each other. I think the relationship is really evolving into a rock-solid kind of thing. They’re portrayed as couple that can withstand really intense trauma, pretty much anything.

The last few weeks we’ve seen Carrie torturing Dan and for the first time viewers have actually developed a soft spot for him. How do you see his and Nathan’s relationship going forward?
It’s been a pretty icy climate between Dan and Nathan and fans can probably expect that to continue. Nathan’s character is classically pretty stubborn and even though he has gone back and forth with Dan for most of his life, what Dan did [over the course of the show] is pretty much unforgivable for every character. No one is ever going to forgive him for that and at the same time he is a hard person to get rid of, as the audience has seen over the years. Nathan, as well as the other characters, will probably have to just deal with him being around the best they can.

Do you enjoy shooting the more lighthearted scenes, or are the dramatic ones more fun?
I can’t remember the last time Dan and Nathan had a lighthearted scene but I do love shooting with Paul [Johansson]. He’s a lot of fun, he’s a professional and he’s an incredibly funny person. There’s always something new and exciting that’s going to happen whenever you work with Paul.

You’re in your sixth season now. What have been some of the best moments for you?
There have been a lot of great moments. The four-year jump ahead was really rewarding for all of us. To be able to be part of something that had never been done before and then to execute it so well and see the audience really take to it, it was a success. It was sort of a gamble and it paid off, everybody worked really hard to make that happen. The new life that it gave the show has been a lot of fun for me and my character. [Also] being able to train like a Slamball player for a month and a half and have the courts here in Wilmington, it’s something that I’d never be able to do otherwise so things like that really stood out for me.

Do you have any other side projects you’re working on?
Myself and couple of friends here from Wilmington produced a documentary that’s actually in the Wilmington film festival, so I’m gonna keep submitting that around, seeing what other festivals I can get it into. It’s a sports documentary, something that we worked really hard on for a year.

So you have an interest in being behind the camera?
A little bit. I’m pretty young so I’m just dabbling in whatever I can get my hands in. I also did a movie in June, over the hiatus, called S. Darko [sequel to Donnie Darko]. I don’t know exactly when that’s going be coming out but I’m anxious to see how that turned out as well.
