It feels like forever since One Tree Hill last aired a new episode, though it’s actually been six weeks. Tonight at 9pm on the CW, One Tree Hill resumes season 6 with the first new episode of 2009.

When we last left the residents of Tree Hill, Peyton received some shocking news from her doctor which is almost certainly either cancer or a pregnancy (or both!), Lucas was enjoying massages with the cokehead director of his movie, Nathan tried out for the pros, and Sam got into a car with some bad people after we learned her friend was the one who attacked Brooke.

Tonight’s brand new episode, titled “Things a Mama Don’t Know,” promises to reveal plenty of surprises. We’ll learn about Peyton’s condition while Lucas discovers yet another secret Julian is keeping about the film version of An Unkindness of Ravens.

Meanwhile, Brooke will continue to look for Sam while dealing with the fact that her attacker was Sam’s friend. If that isn’t enough, things might also be shaken up in the relationship world since the last episode ended with Millie and Owen getting drunk enough to hook up.

Though there will be plenty of dramatics moments, things in the Naley household look considerably better as Nathan gets recruited by the Charleston Chiefs, also known as one of the worst fake names for a basketball team ever. Couldn’t they go for Vipers or, if only so Chester could get more screentime, the Jack Rabbits?

Check out this brand new episode of One Tree Hill tonight at 9pm on the CW following a new episode of Gossip Girl.

Locally filmed TV series “One Tree Hill” reached several milestones this year, in Hollywood and in Wilmington. Here’s a took a look back at what 2008 meant for the cast and crew.

For the first time, cast and crew did not have to sit around wondering if they would have a job after the end of season five, which was shortened because of the industry-wide writers’ strike. A season six pickup was announced by The CW in March, earlier than any other season – a sign that the show was finally proving itself to the network.

More than one crew member this year mentioned how the show lives in the shadow of “the other” made-in-Wilmington teen drama, “Dawson’s Creek.” This year, “One Tree Hill” stepped out of that shadow. The last episode of this season will make 130 total. That’s two more than “Dawson’s” had.

Speaking of “Dawson’s Creek,” One Tree Hill” gave a little nod to its teen drama predecessor when Dawson himself, James Van Der Beek, agreed to appear in three episodes this year.

Star Chad Michael Murray turned heads when he wrote a 1940s-set fantasy episode. The cast was dressed in period clothes, downtown’s streets were lined with classic cars, and the crew created a breath-taking nightclub set at EUE/Screen Gems.

Star James Lafferty contributed to Wilmington’s local film scene when he debuted his first feature-length film, “For Keeps,” at the Cucalorus independent film festival. Lafferty produced the documentary, which followed the Wilmington Sea Dawgs basketball team through its first season.

Actress Hilarie Burton put down more roots here by starting a production company with “One Tree Hill” producer Kelly Tenney. The first couple of films by Southern Gothic Productions will feature scripts by Wilmington writers.

And actress Barbara Alyn Woods went down in the history books as Queen Azalea 2008.

Cast and crew are enjoying a winter hiatus right now, which will end Jan. 5. They will finish up the original 22 episodes ordered plus two additional episodes ordered this fall by the network. This is a good indicator that the network is pleased with the show’s ratings (it does especially well among young women), and some speculate it could also mean executives want a season seven.

More pessimistic prognosticators point to “Tree Hill” creator Mark Schwahn’s recent deal with CBS Paramount to write a new incarnation of the “Beverly Hills 90210” spin-off “Melrose Place.” If a seventh season of “Tree Hill” is ordered, though, Schwahn is committed to stay with the Wilmington-based show.

Even though the shows are taking a breather from their regular runs, the fans are adamant at keeping track of them. This is the case with the series One Tree Hill, which has some of the most determined audiences who are thirsty for some information. With its return on January 5 next year, there has been plenty of speculation regarding what’s coming.

EW’s Michael Ausiello may not have any news on the upcoming episodes, but he does regarding the future of the series as a whole, offering up some news on the possibility of future seasons.

The ever-vigilant Ausiello replied with this: “You can pretty much count Chad Michael Murray in for a season 8 — assuming The CW wants a season 8.” Some of the fans commented that since the sixth season is ongoing, Ausiello might mean 7 instead of 8. But another interpretation would be that One Tree Hill is going for an eighth season, which should please many of the watchers. However, Ausiello appeared to be hinting that the CW isn’t ready for another installment of the hit drama. A gain, everyone just has to be patient with how things turn out.

Ausiello went on by saying, “The newbie writer says he’s already pitched a story for next season. “I want to do a Scrooge episode,” he says. “[James Lafferty] can be Tiny Tim, and the girls would be the ghosts of rock and roll past, present, and future.”
